The Sad Reviews: She'll Grow Back

Here are some reviews from www.garageband.com of our production of "She'll Grow Back", they vary from good to bad, and the reviewers vary between expert and mouldy cabbage.

Woo I liked it!
Why aren't you guys already famous? This song rocked! The cello makes the song perfect! You sound like a cross between Nirvana and The Smashing Pumpkins. I love the "empty" rythm at 1:29. The chorus is a bit too happy for the rest of the song, but I guess it balances it out.

Moody, melancholic, and muddy.
I like it. The production is muddy, and the vocals are sometimes out of tune, but that's okay. I like the Cello, and it sounds extremely middle eastern, but unfortunately, its not very clear. You have a sort of Jesus and Mary Chain-feel to you. I can't really find a distinctive chorus, maybe make it a little different than the rest of the song? It has a very Middle Eastern, storytelling mood all the way through. GREAT JOB!

trippy
I hear some Bowie, some really old pink floyd, perhaps Queens of the Stone Age.
I like the mood of this song, kinda stoned out, and middle eastern.
The cello works, it doesn't sound like a cello though, more like a middle eastern drone instrument of some sort.

i guess...
i guess the cello is the thing making all that out of tune racket. i could take it or leave it.
overall, though, i like the sound of this a lot. it has a good "sonic palate," if you want to get lame about it. the distorted acoustic guitar almost sounds like "street fighting man," which is rad.
it's almost tv-on-the-radio-esque.
this is pretty interesting. if you can manage to recreate this live, it would be a lot of fun to watch.

gripping at the beginning

feels like the dandy warhols and 1994 flaming lips in the beginning. i love it immediately.. good and interesting vocalist.. good use of that wild guitar sound in between the verses.. this is a noisey band, but the good kind.. catchy and driving beat.. the only thing i wish i could change is that it isn't really catchy, it's more interesting to me, so i might only listen to it occasionally, instead of as a new favorite.. couldn't find a chorus..the instrumentation is good, but i think there is a more interesting chorus needed and a little more structure. in this arena less can be better, but i think for these guys they really are onto something, it just needs to be refined... the cello and all instruments are extremely well used.

best thing i've heard here yet...
nice intro, but that drum beat would be better if it was a little less punk until the lyrics start. the vox are good, esp. with harmony. i appreciate the guitar solo in the background, but maybe make it a little more melodic or more agressive, sounds sort of out of place. second time around, even more so - is that even a guitar? it's irritating around 2:25. the lyrics should come up in the mix, as well

Sweet intro
Right off the bat I really liked the way the drum beat went with the intro. I think the vocals in this song sound very prefessional. They are sung with power and range. I think the hook in this song is catchy. After the chorus I really like how the intro/verse riff blends back in. I would take out that yell at about 3:00 I vocals behind sound good enough to where you dont need it. The yell at the end however sounded nice and well placed. Good song all around.

She Just Went , OK..
Yes ! An Indie with a bit of raw power and inclination to play on the wild side.
Riveting vocals,Pulsing bass, tight as a nun"s *~* drums, a Siberian sounding cello, Neat production, Mix cool as, chorus also coooool as
Ok guys count me in ya gotta 5..
All this and more while sounding like no other . Awesome !

It'll grow (back) on you!
Liked the opening guitars. Vocals were orginal too. Sounded like some effect Ween often use.
"She's gone but she'll grow back" is a cool line.
The cello gives it a slightly drug induced/pyschadelic feel to it - it's a little grating by the 3:00 mark though.
Chorus is intersting especially with that line about her growing back. I think maybe if there wre a better verse with a stronger melody it would accentuate the chorus more. As it is, it's OK though.
Sounds like...Sonic Youth!

Trippy

Very bugged out intro, almost psychedelic. Not really to much to this song, sometimes thats for the better though. In this song, I think it is. The violin(I think it is) added some major texture to it, and the melody you used gave the song a kind of Indian type feel. Simple verses, short phrases of lyrics, VERY experimental. Cool.

keep on rockin, later on

Barriers blocking potential to be great, but fixable
The cello is out of tune. If it is supposed to be out of tune, that's fine, but it doesn't help the song out. Behind the out of tune cellos and probably purposefully out of tune vocals there does lie a good melody and groove. Funny, most songs have great production to cover up for crappy melodies. This song is just the opposite. Shoddy musicianship covers up an otherwise good melody.

If you get the vocals more distinct and get the cello in tune, this will be a very good song.

Interesting tones.
I wish I could hear the vocals a little better. I like the tones and I think I like the vocal tone too. It's a little on the monotonous side and gets old after awhile. Starts going somewhere closer to 2:00. Not really into the droning thing that much.

Strange mix of Guitars and vox
The intro to this song is very lo-fi, which kind of turns me off, but the transition into the actual song is pretty nice. The song and the drums in particular, is a bit repetitive and monotonous. The vocals remind me of early 90's Vox.

Not reccomended for the insane!!
Is it Moose Mating Season??? Some of those background sounds your getting sound like the Canadian Outback!! Ahh Must be the cello!!! There were parts of the vocals that I thought were interesting but the drone of the rest of the arrangement brought tears to my eyes -- Sorry guys
